A New Chapter for the UK Old Andrean Branch

The recent UK Seniors Lunch and Summer Reception in London marked not only two wonderful occasions for Old Andreans to reconnect, but also an important transition in the leadership of one of our largest global branches.

After many years of dedicated service, Peter Goldsworthy (Graham 2000) officially stepped down as Chairman of the UK Branch as he and his wife, Cath, prepare to relocate to South Africa with their children.

Under Peter’s leadership, the UK Branch has continued to grow and flourish, bringing together a vibrant community of 755 Old Andreans through regular social events and networking opportunities. His commitment has strengthened the bonds between OAs across the UK and ensured that, even thousands of kilometres from Makhanda, the spirit of College remains alive and well.

In his farewell toast at the Seniors Lunch, Peter reflected on the enduring connection that Old Andreans share:

“Though life has carried us far from Grahamstown/Makhanda – across continents and decades – there is something inside us all that is shared and constant… the place that helped shape us. A place that taught us resilience, forged lifelong friendships, and gave us stories that seem to improve with embellishment with every passing year.”

We extend our sincere thanks to Peter for his outstanding leadership and service to the UK Branch over many years. We wish Peter, Cath and their family every happiness as they begin this exciting new chapter back in South Africa.

We are also delighted to welcome Max Ryan (Mullins 2017) and Chris Brown (Armstrong 2013) as the new Co-Chairs of the UK Branch. Their appointment was announced during the London events, alongside the announcement of David Springer (Merriman 2005) as the incoming Treasurer of Grahamstown United Schools Trust.

Thank you Max and Chris, and David, for stepping forward to serve the UK OA community. We look forward to working with you as you continue to build on the strong foundation that Peter has established.
