The Andrean Legacy Society

THE COLLEGE PRAYER (Traditional version)

We give Thee most humble and hearty thanks, O Most Merciful Father, for our Founder, John Armstrong, and for all our Governors and Benefactors, by whose benefit this school is brought up to godliness and sound learning: And we humbly beseech Thee to give us grace to use these Thy blessings to the glory of Thy Holy Name, that we may answer the good intent of our religious Founder, and become profitable members of Church and State, and at last partakers of Thy Heavenly Kingdom: through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

THE ANDREAN LEGACY

Since 1855, every Andrean who has walked the grounds of our beloved College campus has benefitted, in some form or another, from the legacies bestowed upon our school by Old Andreans past or friends of our school. These legacies have helped shape every boy, ultimately playing a significant role in the history of St Andrew’s College. Generous gifts have made it possible to offer bursaries or scholarships to support talented boys, or enabling the expansion of facilities to meet the evolving needs of future Andreans.

Andrean men have a lasting impact on the communities and industries they dutifully serve, and we remain committed to sending remarkable, good men into the world, to effect positive change. That is the legacy of St Andrew’s College.

YOUR WILL AND BEQUEST

Creating a Will ensures that your assets are distributed according to your wishes after your death, offering the opportunity to leave a lasting legacy for loved ones or support the non-profits that are close to your heart. A bequest is an effective way to establish your own personal legacy, and to lessen the burden of taxes on your family and on your estate. Over time, financial situations can shift, making it important to regularly review your Will with your advisors and family. This helps ensure your wishes are honoured and your beneficiaries are protected. It’s recommended to have a lawyer handle the drafting and witnessing of your Will to guarantee that all necessary formalities are followed and the document remains valid.

National Wills Week is an annual campaign offering the public an opportunity to have a basic will drafted for free by participating law firms registered with the Law Society of South Africa (LSSA). For more information or to find a participating law firm in your area, visit https://www.lssa.org.za.

Choosing a bequest option There are several ways that you can make a bequest to College.

      • A Specific Bequest. This option allows you to bequeath a specified sum or an asset such as shares, property, or works of art etc.

      • A Residuary Bequest. This option allows you to bequeath a portion of your residuary estate (i.e. what remains after all other donations and costs have been paid).

      • A Contingent Bequest. Under this option, if you make a bequest to someone who is unable to inherit the bequest, the bequest is then redirected to another stated beneficiary

SECURE YOUR ANDREAN LEGACY

The culture of giving has long been part of our history and ethos, and St Andrew’s College owes its existence to the generosity of successive generations of Old Andreans and parents who have helped to build this great school. As you are part of our extraordinary community, it is our hope that you will see the value in leaving a legacy to ensure the future of our beloved school.

If you would like to include College as a beneficiary in your Will, we would be honoured to speak with you privately about how your bequest could benefit College. Your legacy can contribute towards:

      • Bursaries and Scholarships

      • Campus development projects

      • The Endowment Fund

If you have already remembered College in your Will, please let us know so that we can ensure that your wishes are fully understood and so that we can recognise your magnanimity appropriately.

Gifts of this nature are truly extraordinary, reflecting one’s trust in our commitment to securing a sustainable future for our school and the countless future generations of young Andreans who will benefit from the Andrean experience. Depending on the level of commitment, naming rights may be requested. A bursary or scholarship in your memory, or a capital project, ensures that your legacy lives on.

If you have an existing Will, but have not provided a legacy for St Andrew’s College, a convenient and inexpensive codicil can be drafted and attached to your Will. Please find a CODICIL for a specified sum for guidance, but it is crucial that you consult your legal adviser regarding a bequest, whether for a specified sum, a portion of your residuary estate or as a contingent gift.

Please reach out to the Foundation Office at foundation@sacschool.com to discuss your wishes further.

THE ANDREAN LEGACY SOCIETY

The Andrean Legacy Society serves to recognise all Old Andreans and friends of St Andrew’s College who have made or who intends to make provisions for a bequest to our school in their estate plan. We are grateful for those who have had the vision of ensuring a sustainable and ever-growing St Andrew’s College.
