Gauteng OA Golf Day a great success

The Gauteng OA Branch hosted a Golf Day on Friday, 24 July 2026 at the prestigious Royal Johannesburg East Golf Club, bringing together Old Andreans, parents, sponsors and friends for a day of friendly competition and support for College.

A total of 26 fourballs took to the course before gathering for the evening festivities.

Guests were welcomed by the stirring sound of the College Pipe Band, who were in Johannesburg ahead of the 2026 South African Pipe Band Championships the following day. Their performance provided a fitting reminder of the traditions that continue to define us.

Headmaster Tom Hamilton addressed guests during the evening, sharing an update on developments at College and the exciting momentum building towards the College’s 175th anniversary celebrations in 2030.

Reflecting on the evening, Tom said that gatherings such as the Gauteng OA Golf Day are not really just about golf, but about friendship, memory, loyalty and belonging.” He paid tribute to the strength of the Gauteng Andrean community and thanked the organisers for their hard work. He added that, apart from being hugely enjoyable, the auction raised significant funds towards the 175 Campaign, making the event a powerful celebration of College and its wider family.

The auction, where Nic and Louise Poole generously donated a two-night stay at Camp Fig Tree, was expertly conducted by Warwick Austin (Upper 2007), and raised R163,000!

Events such as these are only possible through the generosity and commitment of many people. Our sincere thanks go to the numerous corporate sponsors who supported the day through hole sponsorships, auction items and prize donations, and to every golfer who participated and contributed to its success.

A special word of appreciation goes to the Gauteng Parents Committee, whose willingness to give of their time and energy helped ensure the day ran seamlessly.

Finally, heartfelt thanks go to Peter Kroon (Upper 2014) and his organising committee for delivering an outstanding golf day and evening function. Their dedication and hard work made the event a tremendous success and a wonderful celebration of the Andrean community.

We look forward to seeing everyone again next year!
