Jason Thomas (Old Preppie & Old Andrean Graham House 2020) is cycling for Kariega Foundation:

We are so proud of Jason Thomas (Graham 2020) who has taken on an incredible journey to raise funds for conservation and specifically for the Kariega Foundation. Based in the USA, Jason has returned to South Africa for this exceptional challenge. Jason has already reached the halfway mark and we wish him all the best for the rest of his ride!

NEC ASPERA TERRENT!

Here are Jason’s reasons for taking this on, and how to support him:

“The Eastern Cape will always be home to me. It’s where I grew up, where my love for the bush, wildlife and adventure began, and it’s a place I’ve always wanted to give back to.

I am incredibly grateful for the upbringing I received and for the opportunities I have been given throughout my life. My parents worked exceptionally hard to provide my brother and me with a secure, happy and adventurous childhood. They encouraged us to explore, appreciate nature and make the most of every opportunity that came our way.

I recognise how fortunate I have been, and I do not take that privilege for granted. This ride is one way for me to express my gratitude and give something back. I want to use the opportunities I have received, together with something I genuinely love doing, to support the protection of the landscapes and wildlife that shaped so much of who I am today.

By raising funds for the Kariega Foundation, I also hope to support the organisation’s efforts to create meaningful and lasting change for both conservation and the communities surrounding Kariega.

I’m taking on this challenge which means a lot to me: cycling approximately 1,800 km across South Africa along the 29th parallel in support of the Kariega Foundation and its conservation and community work.”

The 29th parallel south (29° S) is a line of latitude that spans South Africa’s widest east-west section. It runs roughly 1,800 kilometres across the subcontinent, so Jason started in Blythdale beach just north of Durban and is finishing on the west coast in Port Nolloth on the Indian Ocean East Coast.

“It’s tough, but knowing every kilometre can help make a difference makes every climb and long day worthwhile. If you’d like to support the ride, follow the journey, or find out more, I’d really appreciate it.”
