The St Andrew’s College 1st XV has made an impressive start to its Australian tour, recording two victories in their opening fixtures.
The team won their match against Scotch College 61–14 before securing a 41–22 win over St Pius College. Adding to the College connection, the second match was officiated by Old Andrean Andrew Ward (Espin 1997).
Across Australia, our Old Andreans have turned out in wonderful numbers to support the team, both at the matches and at the recent OA/ODSG gathering in Perth. Your presence and encouragement have been greatly appreciated by the players and touring party.
Headmaster Tom Hamilton has spoken highly of the exceptional hospitality extended by both the host schools and the Old Andrean community. Our sincere thanks go to Scotch College and St Pius College for welcoming the team and supporters with such warmth and generosity.
Among those pictured are Jeremy Wheeler (Espin 1965, and great-uncle of Alex Stewart), Stafford Poyser (Espin 1980), John Kingsley-Jones (Graham 1974), members of the parents’ and supporters’ group, and Andrew Ward with his family. Stafford, who represented the College 1st XV in 44 matches over three seasons, also treated the Headmaster to a scenic drive showcasing Sydney’s spectacular coastline.
Thank you to everyone who has welcomed and supported College on tour. We look forward to following the team’s continued journey through Australia.
